Oil Seals

Oil seals or rotary shaft seals are made from synthetic elastomers bonded to case, which is usually metal. They are used in a wide range of applications under very varied conditions.

Oil seals provide an economical means of sealing against rotating shafts. They prevent system lubricants from leaking and also external contamination from entering.

When designing the seal to run under specified conditions, there are many factors to take into account, including:

  • Speed
  • Temperature
  • Media
